New blog feature!   I will be featuring many small business’s every so often.   Most either provide a service or make a product that I just love!    If you know of someone who’d like to be featured, let me know.  

My first Business Spotlight feature is Tammy Fakler who is the designer/creator/owner of “Joyfully Crafted“   A Custom Jewelry Designer.

So tell us a little bit about “Joyfully Crafted” for those readers not familiar with it yet.
Joyfully Crafted offers meaningful jewelry as well as everyday designs. Special messages and family photos can be used to create a special jewelry keepsake.

What about your job do you like most?
Don’t you just love giving gifts with all the excitement you feel getting something so perfect for them and when you see their joy of receiving it?  Well I get to enjoy this through all my wonderful customers.   On the creation side of making jewelry I am always trying to learn new skills. Working with metal has been so much fun and the most rewarding.

How did you get started?
Well my oldest wanted to wear these big earrings and I said no way. It was over summer break so we headed off to the craft store to buy materials to make some earrings. I can picture them now and they were so not professional, but I thought they were the best. I was so excited I started making a few things for gifts. My passion grew from there and I am continually learning new skills. I read and study magazines,books, and information on the internet. I have never taken a class, but I plan to take a 5 day intense workshop this summer. I have purchased an ebook on wire weaving. I loved learning skills from a How to ebook tutorial. I have written ebooks for others to learn. The ebooks are detailed, step by step written directions with photographs on How to create soldered glass art pendants and How to make hand stamped pendant jewelry. I am currently working on another
ebook.

How big is your company in terms of employees?
Well I assume you mean paid employees. My oldest helps me out a lot with beading. I have given my youngest jobs to do and my husband has even helped for a big craft show.  As I learn more they are not able to help as much, but just taping shipping label to bubble mailers can be a huge help.

What are the hot trends that you see in your business that will impact your customers this year?
I offer a lot of personalized jewelry hand stamped with names and custom photo pendants so they are always popular for a unique custom gift.

What is your favorite all time piece of jewelry?
It is funny I have a new favorite every month. I save my photos by the month for listing on Etsy. It is great to look at the photos of creations just over the last year. It changes,
evolves, and new skills are shown. So these are my two favorites for May of 2008. Can you tell I like the beach?

There is something so special and unique about a little red head…and they always have so much spunk!   Pair that with coming in with the sweetest mom and just enjoying having photos done….sigh, makes me love what I do even more!

Sweetie baby E was in for his 6 month session…he has grown so much since he came in for his newborn session.  He even brought big brother along for a shot

A parent says that their child doesn’t like getting photos done and then I can’t get the child to stop posing!  haha   These sweeties were such a joy!  Mom insisted that big sister would NOT wear a tutu or put on other outfits for me…but we prooved her wrong and before long she had a list of things of mine she wanted to wear and do photos in.    Gotta love that!

This cutie was in for his one year old birthday session.  His family is moving to NC soon, hopefully they will come back for visits so I can shoot him again, he was such a happy boy!

Tried to get some shots of Ms. Madi this morning to show off her new smile to send to grandmom.   I love the light right infront of the door.

And here is what happens when I asked to see her mouth open to show off her new look (ahhh…life as a photographers child…)  Not to mention I think my children are the youngest ever to loose teeth!   The toothfairy has been here almost every week for a year straight!

And Happy Mothers Day!    This sweetie came in yesterday… I just have such a soft spot for newborns that it was hard to resist even if it was mothers day!   Newborns change so much in those first few weeks that its so important to get them in early!   Ask any client who brought their newborn in under two weeks and they will be the first to say how much they changed only a few weeks later!    I am always so touched when parents make me their childs first professional photographer as I view the newborn session just as important as your wedding day…you can’t get the time back…there is no going back in time to capture those first few days and all the uniqueness of what makes them a “newborn”.    

So here are a few for Mom, Dad and Grandmom who spent yesterday with us… it was so nice meeting you all and chatting!
